Thrifty Treasures

Well girls, I really haven’t been to hardly any garage sales this year at all, but this Saturday I guess you could say….I made up for lost time.  I found some great finds.  I’m linking up for Thrifty Treasures over at Southern Hospitality today…so when you are finished here run on over there and visit with the wonderful host Rhoda and the other participants!

DSC07196 Chippy wooden window 1.00

Two books 1.00 for both

Metal Planter .25

Plant/Flower water globes 1.00 for both

Lamb~Free

Three pair of shoes 6.00 for all

Gold 5x7 picture frame 1.00

Howard Miller clock 1.00

Ironstone soup tureen 2.00

Total 13.25  Not to Shabby…huh?

DSC07198 Does anyone have these….do you use them….and do you like them?  I have always wanted to buy some, but never have…I was glad to find them and I hope they work for me the next vacation I take!  I always hate coming home to dead flowers!!!  OH, and the metal planter is already holding some small hand towels in the powder bath.

DSC07199 I have already read several stories out of the Over Joyed book…I like books that have short stories!  Looking forward to the Desperate Women of the Bible!

DSC07200 I just kept looking at this little lamb…I thought he was so sweet looking and of course  I was thinking how cute He would look in my kitchen.  The man at the yard sale came over to me and said….I want you to have that! It’s free for you!  And, now the lamb is making his self at home on my kitchen island.  He just looks perfect sitting there!   And, sometimes you just meet this nicest people when you’re out yard selling….The man that gave me the lamb, had just lost his wife about 6 mos ago…he felt the need to share her story with me, and I enjoyed the conversation!

DSC07201 The frame and clock are already displayed in my house…the clock just needed at new battery…{easy fix}!

DSC07202I know~More SHOES!!! I really do have a shoe obsession!!! The green and blue shoes were new and the other shoes were like new! ….Aren’t those green ones…CUTE!

DSC07203 This soup tureen was marked 2.00….it’s old…you can tell…the lid is cracked bad, but…I have plans for it and that cracked lid will also be used for something down the road!

DSC07204 I like the natural aged crackle!  The lady that was selling this said it belonged to her grandmother…and her and her hubby was moving and hubby didn’t want to move that heavy tureen….so….I tried to keep my lips zipped…..I really tried!  REALLY!!! But, before I knew it….my lips was moving and words was flying out of my mouth….like this….

Me: What did you say?

Tureen owner: We’re moving and my husband doesn’t want to move this heavy tureen.

Me: Didn’t you say, it belonged to your grandmother?

Tureen owner: Yes it did.

Me: Honey, I couldn’t imagine my husband wanting me to get rid of something that belonged to my grandmother!!!!! And, I definitely could NOT imagine me EVER doing it!!!!

Then~ I gave her the 2 bucks and picked it up….hugged it and told it I would never get rid of it!  ;)

DSC07205There’s not a chip or crack any where else on the tureen…not even the ladle.

DSC07206 The stamping on the bottom.

For now, it’s sitting in my dining room…soon to hold a floral arrangement of some kind.  Stay tuned for that and as for that wooden window frame…It will soon become a memo/picture board for my desk!

There you have my Thrifty Treasures so far this Summer.  Not too bad for just one Saturday Morning!

thrifty treasuresDon’t forget to see more Thrifty Treasures, go over to Rhoda’s at Southern Hospitality

I hope you all have a wonderful day!

I just love your fines, I am just amazed and saddened at how some people just have no connection to their past. How sad.

I love all your great finds, but I think my favorites are: well, the shoes for sure and the clock, but the tureen is the best! I love the story that goes with it! Would love to see it once its repurposed with a floral arrangement. Thanks for sharing ...

OMG Nancy, I cannot believe how lucky you were this weekend...good for you girl!

I love, love, love the soup tureen! I've been looking for one myself. I'd like to start a collection but am having a hard time finding them. I'll just be patient. That's the great thing about thrifting, sooner or later you'll find what you're looking for. You just have to be patient!

Wow, you found some really nice things! I love that soup tureen, and I'm so mad at myself for letting one get away! I wanted to put a small palm plant in it, but it was brown and white (and very old), and I wasn't crazy with that color combo.
I used those water globes when we went on vacation in June. It saved my Peace Lily, which is usually severely drooping when we get back. I would definitely recommend them!
Love that sweet lamb, and that clock too. You did great!

NANCY!!! That's a Red Cliff ironstone soup tureen you got for $2.00!! Unbelievable! I have my mom's and I love it. You can see it in some of the pics on my sidebar. All that's missing is the underplate and you might be able to find that on ebay! Amazing! I've seen them in antique stores for up to $400! My friend found one recently for $23 with underplate and we bought it and ran out of the store before they changed their minds!! lol Great score!...Debbie

Hi Nancy! You did great this past weekend. I bought a window frame awhile back for $17.00 and thought that was a good deal. Guess I'd better watch it!

Congratulations on winning the adorable pillow from Shelia. She is the best seamstress and that pillow is to die for!

I just found your blog through Molly's Country Memories and I love your blog! I love going to garage sales and am also amazed at the wonderful things that people want to get rid of! It is so much fun rescuing things from these people!!!

Nancy, Debbie (prof en retrait) is my friend and was with me when I bought a Red Cliff tureen recently for $22 - could not believe my eyes! It was in perfect condition - all 4 pieces - and before that someone outbid me on ebay for one. As she said, they can cost as much as $400, or as low as the ebay bidders are offering. All that to say - YOU GOT A BIG DEAL!!!! $2 is ridiculous. I am so glad you will give it some love, because that granddaughter surely should have! Way to go! Linda

What a coincidence. I was actually in your post on your Thrifty Treasures post. My "You Have Mail" notice popped up and there you were.

Well, thanks for stopping by and looking at my fire hydrants. I'm just learning how to do them, I don't know how to make them bigger, so they can be seen. Even when you double click, they don't enlarge.

Your yard sale finds are real treasures. I can't wait to see what you will do with the tureen and the window.

Fun finds, Nancy!! You did really great, love that little lamb too. I spotted the soup tureen first thing. Lucky you, that's a beauty.

I'm doing a book review too, fun book we have!

Girl I am so in LOVE with that tureen!!! I am like you, I would NEVER get rid of something that was my grandmothers! He can move a sofa, but he can't manage a soup tureen???

Their loss...your gain! Can't wait to see what you do with it!!

One of my tumors that was bigger than a walnut has went away. Preacher came and prayed for me one day, I went out to him, will crying, bad day, he took my hands and crossed them with his and prayed, that was 2 weeks ago, next week Doc said its gone. Now I do have others small, holding for now, so I got to tear out a window, putting in book shelves on each side of my old mirror mantel.( Mantel fell on me! Hubby just shook his head! I am going to get a lot done! Did you say they were a seven or a seven and half? Now sent me those black and white shoes! lol

I have an English ironstone pitcher my mother used when I was growing up, and I'll always have it!!
