Phyllis Hoffman

Honey, It's All In the Shoes! That pretty much says it all for me. I can remember times in my life where I bought wonderful shoes....in fact, I was more concerned with the shoes I wore than my outfit. For me, shoes express my true personality.
One of my favorite pair of show stoppers was the white go-go boots that I got for Christmas years ago. It was the right-of-passage for me. I was transformed into a "Marlo Thomas" clone (I love the show "That Girl") and the white go-go boots were a dream come true.
Other times, shoes were worn to life changing events. My carefully selected brown satin shoes that I wore to Eric and Katie's wedding are referred to as my MOG (Mother of the Groom) shoes. These shoes marked a very special time in my life when I became a mother-in-law. Every mother dreams of the beautiful young woman that her son will marry, and for me Katie is everything I could ever want. I think you will enjoy reading about the moments of decision that surrounded the wedding. It was glorious and had wonderful moments that changed my life forever.
I used shoes as the transport to talk about times and events in our lives that we women will experience. We can't always know the direction that our paths will take, but whatever path we are on, we are to walk with confidence. Life throws us curves and unanticipated events and we must use these times to grow personally.
In the future, I have plans to write additional books to encourage women. For it is through our real-life experiences that we can best encourage each other.
Walking with you, Phyllis Hoffman

You just brought up a memory that I had actually forgotten. I to had white go go boots, and yep they were my favorite. I remember wearing hot pants outfits with the boots. That Girl was one of my favorite shows also. Every girl wanted to be Ann Marie and have her own job and apartment!

thanks so much for the inspiration both Nancy and Phyllis!!!! Yes, I DO remember That Girl!!! I loved that show. Are we NOT shaped somewhat by things that we watched as children???? And yes, indeed, shaped by the way shoes and such make us feel. What a fun book title and if it's anything like the magazine, I know I will love it! thanks for the inspiration!!!

Oh, those cheerleader saddle shoes. . . and the Peau De Soie ones for all those bridesmaids. . .

I had to give a lesson to my neighbor's 14-year-old daughter on how to walk in heels. Her mother, sadly, didn't know how to use enough hip. . . but I digress. . .

Shoes. And Phyllis Hoffman. The combination is priceless. July 21st RULES!!!

I loved shoes growing up, rather they were boots, sandals, dress shoes or house shoes, it was fun. As I've gotten older my feet has grown so much till its hard to find cute shoes, but I keep trying....lol....I love any magazines for decorating or cooking. This book should be a fun read. Thanks, Debbie

How sweet of Ms. Hoffman to do a guest book here at Southern Lady- Nancy's blog. This book sounds like such a fun read! Everything Ms. Hoffman touches is just so Southern and wonderful and I can definitely say I was inspired to be a Etiquette and Tea Consultant after reading the very first Southern Lady magazine. Many magazines later, I am still receiving inspiration from her magazines! Thank you Nancy and Ms. Hoffman for...Keeping it Southern!

What a lovely post and great giveaway. The book sounds wonderful.

My latest Mother of the Bride shoes, are extra special. They are the shoes I wore for my eldest daughter's wedding, two years ago, this coming November.
T. was 41 years old, never married, when she met S. 41 years old, never married. Theirs was an amazing wedding, two years later. We really believed, T. would never marry!

Hi Phyllis! Loved reading your post. Oh I remember Go-Go Boots. I wanted a pair so bad and my mom would not let me have a pair. All my friends had a pair... If they ever come back in style, I am getting a pair. I am buying a pair for Mary Esther too! That is if she wants them. :-)

Can't wait to read the book!

What an honor to "meet" you Phyllis. I have to tell you that Victoria magazine is my all time favorite magazine. For years, I subscribed to it and then it stopped being published for a few years. I was thrilled when you brought it back. I could sit for hours reading and rereading the articles and gazing at the beautiful photos. Thank you a wonderful monthly escape.

Your new book sounds like a hoot. I well remember Marlo Thomas and the TV show "That Girl". I had a pair of white go-go boots too. Thank you for writing a guest post on Southern Lady. I'm originally from New York but I really do love southern things too.

I have always had a fascination with shoes although I prefer to look at them more than wear them (bad feet - might be why I love shoes so much - a deep, internal longing). Anyhow... my first memory involves a pair of blue suede shoes (seriously). I was 3 years old, my grandparents were moving and someone who showed up to help them was wearing blue suede shoes. I was enthralled. Talking about it a couple of decades later, my mother never would have believed me except my memory didn't stop at the shoes & I shared details of what that living room looked like but nothing was as vivid as the shoes. Amazing how our memories get tied to something like that. I look forward to reading the book - it looks like a fun time!
