Fun With Thrifty Finds and Moss

Y’all remember this~Poor thing….it was rejected by it’s owner…It’s lid is cracked bad, but still a beauty to me!

DSC07203

I couldn’t believe that someone would get rid of this…and then when I found out how much it was worth, I really couldn’t believe it!  It was a score at 2 bucks!

DSC07201 The same day I got the picture frame and clock…….so what did I do with these diamonds in the rough?????

DSC07225 I started pulling things together from here and there to create a simple arrangement for the tureen.

DSC07229 Noting was glued, just place inside the tureen carefully!

DSC07239I just fell in love with these antique looking pears!  I found them at The Keeping Room in Oak Ridge, TN.  The Keeping Room is going out of business…So the pears was another great score!  The final price per pear was 1.50!  You will see more about The Keeping Room at the end of this post!

DSC07242 My favorite part of this arrangement is that MOSS!  I love it! And, last week Hobby Lobby had it 50% off!  Making it 2.50 a bag!

DSC07251 Can you see the sun rays???  There is a certain time of day that the sun shines through the front door and highlights this arrangement!

DSC07313 Do you see any more thrifty finds here????

DSC07316 Need a better view???

DSC07320 Remember these???  The gold frame made a perfect display for my grandfathers pocket watch!  And, the Howard Miller clock just looks right at home with the other clocks!

DSC07317 Yeah, I know….none of these clocks have the same or right time…lol ;)

DSC07321 Here’s a run down of what this thrifty arrangement cost

Red Cliff Tureen $2.00

1 Bag of Moss $2.50 {used in other arrangements, also}

5 pears total used in arrangement and 2 laying on tray $10.50

Feathers….I had most….but bought about 8 stalks at $1.00 ea. total of 8$

Grand Total $23.00  Not too bad!

DSC07326 I really loved playing around with that bag of moss!

DSC07323 The bunny was another yard sale find…last year….he got a new coat of paint and is now sitting in his all his glory!

DSC07329 I made sure I used every last piece of that moss….I found out the possibilities are endless, when it comes to that fluffy green stuff!

Y’all go get you a bag and see what you come up with!  I know you’ll have as much fun as I did with it!

A tribute to ~THE KEEPING ROOM~

I adore your arrangement with the feathers, moss and pears in that pretty tureen! That's genius! I don't know if I would've thought to do that. Now, you've inspired me to dress up some feather arrangements I have that are a little plain. Love the idea with framing the pocket watch too. That's so creative. Still enjoying your blog. Have a great day!

Hi Nancy,
You did a great job with the tureen. It would have cost a fortune purchased in a store. I love that moss and may have to run over and get some for myself. Love the clocks and how you did the picture frame with the pocket watch.
Enjoy your day!

Nancy, your arrangement looks super nice. I really love the simplicity of it and the unexpected twists of using a soup tureen for an arrangment. You know one of my favorite parts? The element of surprise by placing a pear in the ladle. :) Very, very well done. Oh yes! I love reindeer moss and use it all the time in my arrangements and other areas in my decorating!

Thanks for all the great ideas in your post today! :)

Oh, Wow the clock in the frame is so wonderful!!! I Just love the moss! I have to have some! My family room is done in Native Indian and I have an arrangement of feathers, The moss will give it a special touch! I adore the soup tureen. I got to go to antique store in Natchez, I usually buy lots, well hubby was shocked! I have WHITE soup tureen, platters, ect on my list! A large tray. I did find a large tray there, well it was four feet tall, yes it was! No, do not want one that big! lol A few other things. Oh, I found my tables I want, but price really high! Then there is the buffet! Then I take the one I made to the weaving studio. I dreaming! lol Well I just love this arrangement! I made one out of just gourds! I should show some of them. I forget. lol Love all your clocks! Now, I adore the what you did with the ladle! Now I not a fruit person, but I love the pears! I use grapes a lot too. This is perfect!!!

Hi Nancy. :) That came out so pretty? I love moss too. Keep a bag of it in the cabinet. I'm always poking it in things including at the base of live plants. It just softens the look. You sure got lucky with that tureen.

I love your collection of clocks. What a cute idea. Awhile back I decided to collect little clocks. Bought the first one which was adorable. It fell off the shelf and broke! Never have moved beyond that point. :) I'm glad you reminded me.

Love all the clocks....and I love the soup tureen arrangement. I made one earlier this summer in a soup tureen with moss and red gerber daisies...maybe I should post that. Perhaps I will do feathers and pumpkins/gourds in the fall! Thanks for the inspiration!

I'm going to get my soup tureen out and do an arrangement. You inspired me with this beautiful arrangement, Nancy!

There was a shop at the lake called Keeping Good Company that closed this year. I certainly will miss it. It sounds like The Keeping Room was a similar shop.

I love what you did....you know what, theres nothing so beautiful as when the sun shines on certain things in our homes. For me, the ultimate is enjoying jazz music and just watching the end of the day.

You have the knack 'cause that arrangement is gorgeous! I have got to get me some of that moss and go to town with it in my house like you did!

Good morning Fancy~

I just love what you did with the soup tureen but your Grandfathers pocket watch in the frame....stole my heart. I may have to borrow that idea. I just received my Pop's pocket watch and I have my great uncles watch, too. I've been racking my brain as to how to display them. I absolutely love what you did with yours. The cluster of clocks is perfect...and although they don't keep perfect time, the rhythm they share together is quite unique. Lovely display. Thanks so much for sharing!

Hugs~ J

I love the arrangement you did in the tureen! The thrifty clock is right at home with your other clocks, and what a neat idea, to use the frame to display your grandfather's pocket watch. My grandpa had one too, and I remember always loving it.

That's too bad about The Keeping Room closing. It sounds like a really cool store.

That arrangement is gorgeous. You would pay big bucks for that in a shop! Everything you did with that moss looks great. I'm going to go buy a bag of it, but I'm willing to bet what I do with it won't look as great as what you did with it. I have always admired the ads for The Keeping Room. I can understand why you'd be sad about it closing, but I bet you did get some fabulous deals. laurie
