~Lost But Now It's Found!~

First...I know you are asking What is this....well, It's a spice cabinet. Years ago my Dad use to make all kinds of different things, remember the country shelves we use to all hang...well, he made those too. He made pie safes, jelly cabinets, microwave hutches....you name it he made it. He always did a fantastic job and we would go from shows to shows...selling his treasures! I guess that is where I get my craftiness.....Ok...I have to give Mom credit too....she use to do the tole{sp?} painting. She would also make corn shuck wreaths...y'all do remember those don't you! Any way, Dad had made me this spice cabinet back in 1987! I used it for years, but then....that style kinda went away for me....so I put this treasure up and away for years....but I knew I would always keep it!!!! Then comes....our move in 2004, now mind you we just moved across the street from where we had lived for 17 years. After 15 long months of building a new house and trying to sell our other house....packing, getting rid of what I didn't want to move, etc....I had lost this spice cabinet! When I decided...{for some reason I don't remember}, one day to look for this cabinet....I couldn't find it, I looked in every decorating closet and space that I store my treasures, and I couldn't find it! I was devastated, I thought I must have gave it away, with out knowing it, in all the confusion! I can't began to tell you how bad I felt..how I have worried over this spice cabinet....where did it go...who has it....why did I get rid of it......this was the only piece I had left that Daddy had made for me! It has been over 4 years since we moved...and this is not a small treasure to overlook...right? How could I not have found it before now? OK, I'll tell you! My hubby has what I like to call his Man's World Garage....It is an unattached huge garage that sits around the back of our house. I never go out there...why would I! I don't have one thing out there, I thought! How wrong I was! I decided on Friday I would finally put up the Christmas Rug that was laying on the side porch {hubby usually does this} I took the Christmas rug out to the unattached garage, {That's where hubby stores it}....so I am out there looking for the everyday rug that goes back on the side porch, and LOW and BEHOLD.....I bout took a shouting spell....and I did shed a few tears! There it set in all it's dust and dirt, covered in many spider webs, but it was a beauty to me! I grabbed this Jewel, hugged it, and told it I was so sorry I had neglected it and in the house we went! grabbed the pledge and what a transformation! Edited to add: I enlarged these pics and didn't realise they would cut off....so you can click on them to see the whole picture. I thought about painting it black or white or maybe even red!

But, I can't do it! This is the way Daddy made it....his hands stained it and there is no way I can change the looks of it!
You can see in this picture where Daddy put his name and the date on the back of it!

I think it has been the missing piece in my kitchen! I can't wait to cook now!

I am so glad that hubby didn't put the Christmas rug up this year! If he had, I still would not have found this spice cabinet! Funny how things happen!!! This treasure will always be in my kitchen, from this day on! No, matter where I might live, I will find it a spot right next to the stove! I can't began to express my delight that I feel right now! I love you Daddy, and I will treasure this for the rest of my life! So how about you, have you ever lost anything and then years later it turn up?
News: I have had a couple of you ask me about Rooster Tassels....I am trying to find more roosters! As soon as I get them, I will have them available....those are the hardest things to find!
I have had a couple of emails from ladies needing decor help via...emails...internet! YEAH! I am so excited! I will let you know more when I can! :)
Thank you so much for stopping by today! Please feel free to leave a comment! Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! Blessings to you all! Nancy

I'm so glad you found it. That's really special.

Years ago when we moved the last thing I packed was a beautiful crystal cake plate that was my hubby's mothers. It came to us when she passed away. Some how...it got lost. We never found that cake plate!! Still hoping it will be uncovered in the attic or something.

What a great story...and I'm so glad you finally found it! Funny how your hubby "not" doing the chore ended up being a blessing in disguise! And you would be crazy to alter it in any way...it's BEAUTIFUL just like your dad made it!

I'm so happy you found your treasure. It is one because your daddy made it.
Things happen for a reason, like you storing the rug this year.
Have a happy week.

Nancy, I'm so glad you found your treasure. My dad made a birdhouse many years ago from a book I checked out of the school library; I was in the 4th grade!! Last Spring, my dad made me the exact same birdhouse and my hubby and I now have it at our lake house. Everytime I see this birdhouse, I think of my Daddy too :)

Blessings,

Sher
